It's a Boy!

We are so excited! We are having a BOY!
Two week ago we had our anatomy scan. I was so excited that I could barely sleep. I swear I was up every two hours…tossing and turning. For some reason, knowing the gender of our baby made my pregnancy real.

Paul and I had joked about what we were having. Our friends loved the thought that it would be a little girl, so Paul would be broke for the rest of his life. I too thought maybe I was carrying a girl, because I was so sick during the first trimester. I then read, that when the back of your hands are dry it means you are carrying a boy. The way we looked at it we had a 50 50 chance of one or the other. We didn’t care what was between its legs; we just want a healthy, happy baby.

The big day came and I was so excited. I work up early and laid in bed praying and thinking about our child and how our lives were changing forever. When we walked into the ultra sound room, I looked and Paul and smiled. He was so excited he could barely sit down! Right off the bats the nurse pointed at the screen, there is your little boy! I thought Paul was going to jump for joy. The nurse was amazing walking us through the entire scan, checking his spine, heart, brain, kidneys, legs, arms and feet. We could even spot his little cerebellum developing. He was healthy and a big little boy, already measuring a week ahead of schedule based on his weight.

That Friday we had planned to have our family and some friends down to have a party to reveal the gender. It was great getting to celebrate this special time with our family and friends. Both our moms tried their hardest to get us to spill the news, but we made it!

Below is the video from the big announcement and photos from the scan.

From the beginning Baby

I have been meaning to update the blog with baby details. I am going to start back at the beginning.

We found out we were expecting right at six weeks. I had been on the road traveling for work and noticed during my trip I was a little sick at night; nothing major, but just a little queasy or what I now call green. When I got home, I joked with Paul and told him we needed to buy a test. He laughed me off and said no, it’s too soon. So on that Monday I bought a test while he was a work. I thought about waiting until he got home, but just couldn’t wait! So I did the stick test and about fell off the toilet when the stick screamed PREGNANT! I was in shock; I mean the result popped up so quickly. I tried so hard to wait until Paul came home. I could not wait, I called him like a stalker (repeatedly for 30 minutes) until he called me back. Needless to say he was speechless and thrilled all at the same time.

I was so excited when I found out we were expecting, don’t get me wrong we were trying we just didn’t think it would happen right away. Here’s to fertile myrtle! I was dying to start blogging right away, but the husband promised me to silence until we were past the first trimester. Let’s be honest, no lying here... I did tell a few people. I mean holy cow, you are pregnant!  How can you keep this a secret!

A Major Pain in My Kidney!

Well the last couple of days have been so much fun for the O’Donohue clan. Two separate trips to the emergency room, and a hospital suite.  Over the last couple of months I have had tons of trouble - turns out I have had a kidney stone for over three months.

The major pain hit Saturday evening after Paul and I had a wonderful evening on our patio enjoying our delicious salmon entrĂ©e and my favorite new wine. After a couple of twinges “small shooting pains” the pain became constant,  to the level where I acted like a major wiggle worm and couldn’t breath or stop crying due to the pain. Thank goodness for Paul’s skillful driving skills we arrived to the emergency room just in time! After a CT scan, turns out I had a kidney stone in my right kidney. I was sent home with pain medicine and told to contact my doctor on Monday.

Skip over to Monday, I am at work – had already called my doctor and made an appointment and boom the pain hit me! The pain was excruciating. My guardian angels came to my rescue and drove me to the hospital. After waiting in the emergency room for only 20 minutes (Paul is amazed at how efficient our health care system really is) I was taken back to meet my favorite nurse of the day – Melissa! After two rounds of morphine, a shot of Zofran, Dilantin, Benadryl (morphine made me itch),  an ultrasound and another CT scan it turns out my stone was causing back-up into my kidney and the stone was in my ureter and didn’t want to come out. I was kept overnight and Paul was great and stayed with me the whole time! I was even nice and shared my bed with him!

This morning I discharged and was sent home to try and pass the stone on my own, I have until Thursday morning at 6:15 to get this stone out or they are going in after it!

So, my –so-called marching orders are rest, stay on top of my pain medicine, drink beer and Paul swears if I would do jumping jacks it might just knock loose!

Cheers to a beer and a painful kidney stone!

Thank you for your prayers

A quick update on my doctor's visit - Paul was super husband today and came with me. This is a big deal. He hates doctor’s offices and above all hospitals. My new doctor was wonderful; he lived up to his reputation. He was methodical, detailed and gave me hope!
The good news is he doesn’t think I have IC, but an over active bladder. I always thought of over active bladder as a condition that made you have to use the restroom all the time. I never knew it came with pain and major discomfort. Next steps are a trial of a new medication, then a re-visit in four weeks. We are hoping this is the cure otherwise the next steps do not sound much fun.

Thanks for all the prayers!

Prayers for Wednesday

Okay, I realize that I have abandoned my blog for over an entire month now. I am so sorry. I have been super busy and dealing with a lot lately. I have decided to share some of the details not for sympathy, but for prayers! I need all the prayers!

It all started in February when I came down with a urinary tract infection. After two rounds of different antibiotics and four different doctors I found my self sitting at a Urology Office. I have suffered now for two months with painful symptoms, learning what a catheter feels like twice, had CT scan, crazy medicine that offers no relief just terrible side effects. This Wednesday I have another appointment with a second Urologist who specializes in Cystitis and Interstitial Cystitis. I am hoping for a great outcome!

I will update you on Wednesday evening!

I hope everyone had a great Easter; I will post photos and share the details about our great weekend and Paul’s first sermon at church!
